Important fixing information
Heat-activated adhesive is not a permanent fixing. Every patch must be secured with some stitches around the edge to hold it in place. Incorrect temperature, pressure or timing, or unsuitable fabric, can cause the adhesive bond to fail.
Iron/Sew on application instructions
- Check the garment care label first. Only use heat on fabrics that tolerate a hot iron. Do not iron onto waterproof or coated fabrics, leather, nylon or other heat-sensitive materials. Sew the patch on instead if the fabric is unsuitable.
- Use a clean, dry garment and place it on a firm, heat-resistant surface. Switch off steam and empty the iron's water reservoir. Set the iron to the cotton setting only if the garment care label permits it; never exceed the fabric's safe temperature.
- Preheat the application area for approximately 10 seconds. Position the patch with the adhesive side against the fabric and cover with a thin cotton pressing cloth.
- Press firmly for 25–30 seconds without sliding the iron. Ensure pressure and heat reach all parts of the patch.
- Where possible, turn the garment inside out and press the reverse of the patch area through the cloth for another 20–30 seconds.
- Leave the patch flat until completely cool. Check the edges gently. If an edge has not bonded, repeat a short pressing cycle only if the fabric safely tolerates it.
- Always add stitches around the patch edge, even when the adhesive appears to have bonded securely. The adhesive helps position the patch; stitches provide the lasting attachment.
Care
Once stitched in place, wash gently inside out at a temperature suitable for the garment. Avoid tumble drying and do not iron directly onto the patch.
