The History of the Masonic Forget-Me-Not
The documented Masonic connection dates back to 1926, when a blue forget-me-not badge was produced for a convention of the German Grand Lodge Zur Sonne in Bremen.
The flower later became connected with the persecution and suppression of Freemasonry in Nazi Germany. A popular account states that German Freemasons secretly wore the flower to recognise one another. However, historians disagree about parts of this story, and firm evidence supporting its widespread wartime use has not been found.
What is documented is that the forget-me-not was adopted again after the Second World War. At a German Masonic convention in 1948, it was used as an emblem of remembrance for Freemasons who had suffered during the preceding years.
Today, the blue flower continues to be worn by Freemasons around the world as a symbol of remembrance, brotherhood and perseverance.
